Firstly, you may be wondering what in the world is the Melbourne Mouser? Well, it’s part biking competition and part tour of our fabulous Melbourne. On the day of the event our cyclists will be given the top secret list of locations, it is then their duty to visit each location on the list (in any order they see fit) and get a stamp at each location to prove they were there. Then return to the shop for an after party bug-out.
Get to the shop early! Check in and day-of registration starts at 11:30 and goes until 12:45! ($35 race pace, $25 Cruise Pace, $15 youth)
Check in: 11:30-12:45
Some cyclists will be doing it for the glory of 1st, 2nd or 3rd place and some will simply be doing it for the fun. (did we mention there’d be a best costume prize?) This is an all-ages event, and if you prefer, you can ride in teams!
The ride starts at 1:00 pm and goes all the way until 4:30 pm. We expect the after-party to go on until about 6 pm, prizes announced at 5:30.
There will be two ride options:
Cruise-Pace: (family-friendly) We estimate at about 10-12 miles total
Race-Pace: (no kids on this one for safety reasons) We estimate about 30-35 miles total
We also have t-shirts available for registrants:
What type of bike do I need in order to participate? Anything goes, mountain, cruiser, fixed gear, fatty, roadie, unicycle, you name it. :)
I'm trying to register as a team, but I don't want to pay for everyone! I just want to pay for me! What gives??
So yeah, bikereg.com wants you to register all at the same time under one payment, but fear not! Make sure your team agrees on a name in advance, and when each member registers on their own, have them enter the team name. We'll do our best to work out the logistics on our end and put y'all together.
What should I bring along with me on my ride? Riders must wear a helmet and we recommend a bike lock, pen/marker, map/gps/cellphone, water (it will be hot!), SPF and maybe a snack to keep you going (or you could grab a bite at one of the locations along the way).
How long will the ride take? There is no set route and as such, we won’t have exact mileage, but we estimate the best route will be around 10-12 miles for the short ride and 30-35 for the long. If you don’t stop and eat along the way you should be able to finish by 4pm. Be at the finish line by 5 to qualify for any prizes/awards.
What’s the point? The biggest goal of this ride is to have fun, get to know what Melbourne has to offer, get some sunshine and fresh air and maybe make some new friends along the way.
Do I have to race? No, not at all, you can simply come along for the fun of it. This is an all-levels all-cycles kind of event and everyone should feel welcome to participate. Note: riders must obey traffic and biking laws whether you're racing or not.
Will you be providing sag support if I get a flat? Not this time! You guys are on your own, but we're hopeful that your day will be smooth sailin'.
